The first Post

I am creating this site for all those interested in the future of Distance Education. All topics related to this are welcome.

Hi Al! This is a great idea. I'm interested in distance education although it'll be a lonnnngggg time coming at our institution. We can't even decide on a proper definition of it, much less become disentangled from the idea that students do not HAVE to be on campus to go to class or take tests. :-)

One of our biggest areas of concern is that of assessment and evaluation. How do we maintain security in distance learning, especially in the online arena when there are as many ways to cheat as there are software programs and users? I think this is a big concern in the first two years of an education where the participants may not be as internally motivated to maintain integrity as those with more education.

We shared so much in the Distance Education arena I just wanted to keep it going.

Here is a site on ALEKS that I thought was interesting:,+10:50+AM.

It seems that ALEKS is one of the more popular assessment sites
